During my (not so) recent trip to Singapore, I made a bee-line to all my favourite indie shops. There are quite a number popping up these days in little nooks and it's great discovering new ones when i get the chance.

Down in Yong Siak St in Tiong Bahru, you'll find many old apartments and shophouses, which have become very popular with the yuppie folk. Old world charm mixed with cool indie cafes and shops. Books Actually (above) is a gorgeous bookstore with lots of collectables and stationery... some from when i was a kid.
Nana & Bird is new to me. They're tucked away off Yong Siak St too. Didn't get any pics inside but they have a selection of clothing and accessories by an assortment of designers. They only open their doors on weekends or by appointment.
Had a bit of coffee and cake at Forty Hands also on the same street. Great little cafe.
Little Drom Store is on Ang Siang Hill which is in Chinatown. Lots of design studios and boutique hotels have taken up residence here. Drom means Dream. They have a gallery and lots of locally designed knick knacks. Plus a cake shop right by it.
Down in Haji Lane which is right near Arab St, is a whole strip of little shops. The day i went most were closed for some reason. But usually there are great shops like Pluck, Salad, Threadbare and Squirrel and Dulcetfig. Will report more on Haji Lane when i'm next there which is soon.

Bali Lane is the next street up from Haji Lane, and that's where you'll find Doinky Doodles. Love love love this shop. Everything is handmade. The owner sits behind the counter sewing away, making her merchandise while you check out her wares.
Then back into town on Orchard Road, inside the Mandarin Gallery, you'll find Wood Would. Anyone who loves old school and stationery would be like a kid in a candy store here!
